Ingredients: For homemade Garam Masala Spice Mix

– 2 tablespoons whole coriander seeds
– 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
– 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
– 1 tablespoon green cardamom pods
– 1 teaspoon whole cloves
– 2 cinnamon sticks (about 2 inches each)
– 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
– 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg


Instructions: for Homemade Garam Masala Spice Mix

1. Heat a dry skillet over medium heat.
2. Add the coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black peppercorns, cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and fennel seeds to the skillet.
3. Toast the spices for about 2-3 minutes, stirring constantly, until they become fragrant. Be careful not to burn them.
4. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the spices cool completely.
5. Once cooled, transfer the spices to a spice grinder or a mortar and pestle.
6. Grind the spices until you have a fine powder.
7. Add the ground nutmeg to the spice mixture and stir well to combine.
8. Store the garam masala spice mix in an airtight container in a cool, dark place.
